EP Review: 'Missed b/w Helpless' by Cancers

Title: Missed b/w Helpless (Debt Offensive Records, BandCamp [Debt Offensive])
Artist: Cancers (Official, Facebook, Twitter)

Cancers' follow-up to their excellent 2014 full-length debut Fatten the Leeches is a two song EP that picks up where the LP left off and kicks things up a few notches. Present are crunching and buzzing guitars, tight hooks, and smooth melodies just bubbling below the surface of the fuzz. Both songs on Missed b/w Helpless are quite good but “Helpless” is truly the stand-out with its dueling male and female vocals (I really can't get enough of Ella Kasper's lush, wispy, and sensuous singing) and pop sensibility. The biggest takeaway from Missed b/w Helpless is that Cancers is not slowing down one bit and they so much more in store us to hear, and I for one can't wait to hear it.
