Album Review: Down Side Up

Title:  Down Side Up (Fat Wreck Chords, Amazon, iTunes, Interpunk, AllMusic)

Old Man Markley’s sophomore full-length Down Side Up is a high energy blast of punk influenced bluegrass.  All of the elements that made the band’s debut Guts n’ Teeth so much fun are present but on top of that, the band has also added social commentary to the mix (see “America’s Dreaming,” “Blindfold,” and “So Much More”) and a touch of jazz (see “Come Around Here”).  Old Man Markley has proven once again that they are a solid, solid band that completely understands the seemingly divergent genres of bluegrass and punk rock and mixes them beautifully resulting in some of the best toe-tapping, boot-stomping music around today.
