EP Review: Adelaide

Title:  Adelaide (BandCamp, Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby)
Artist:  Mike Felumlee (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, SoundCloud, BandCamp, Last.fm, Wikipedia)

Generally speaking there seem to be two basic directions that the punk rock troubadour (i.e. individual who has played in a punk band but then went solo, often playing acoustic guitar) will go in:  1) the Americana, alt country path ala Chuck Ragan and Tim Barry,  2) the folk, power pop path ala Frank Turner and Dave Hause.  Mike Felumlee falls into that second category.  His latest EP Adelaide, is four songs of bubbly pop goodness, which isn’t that surprising seeing as he has played drums in Smoking Popes and Alkaline Trio.  These songs are much closer to the folky style of power pop of Mike Park, than the pop punk of Felumlee’s former bands.  Either way, this is great stuff.  The songs are well crafted and expertly performed (almost entirely by Felumlee).  Adelaide is a must for fans of power pop.
