Green Day's latest record, Uno, is the first of three that will be released this year and early next year. This record has been described by the band as a power pop album and I think that is a fairly accurate description of Uno. What Uno really is is a stripped down pop punk / power pop album in that harkens back to the Insomniac days (the new record reminds me particularly of the song "Stuart and the Ave."). The songs on Uno are simple and catchy and not loaded with the political messages that have dominated the band's last two albums, which is a breath of fresh air in my humble opinion. What Green Day does best is play simple songs about love, relationships, and life and that is exactly what is going on on Uno.
