Album Review: Be Your Own Mirror

Title:  Be Your Own Mirror (BandCamp, Amazon)

Be Your Own Mirror is a trippy collection of psychedelic folk songs sung with the breathy voice of Portland, ME’s Jeff Beam.  The nine-song record is an interesting contradiction of acoustic guitar over tripped out electric guitar, bass, drums, and a few other sounds that I can’t really place.  Be Your Own Mirror in a lot of ways reminds me of Ben Lee’s 2011 album Deeper Into Dream; its not that the records exactly sound the same (there are similarities though) but the vide of each is quite analogous.  Beam is obviously a talented musician and songwriter and I could see Be Your Own Mirror appealing to fans of Other Lives and Fleet Foxes.
