Album Review: Apprentice To Ghosts

Title:  Apprentice To Ghosts (Lower 40 Records, Amazon, iTunes)
Artist:  Wrinkle Neck Mules (Official, Facebook, MySpace, Last.fm)

Richmond, VA’s Wrinkle Neck Mules fifth album, Apprentice To Ghosts, is pure Americana as heard through whiskey soaked southern rock and country.  The album is 12 songs of country twinged rock ‘n’ roll reminiscent of Lucero (especially Lucero’s Women & Work album).  Apprentice To Ghosts’ best moments are the faster, rockin’ ones like “On Wounded Knee” and “Double Blade,” but that’s not to say that the slower moments aren’t good, because they are, I just personally tend to prefer my Americana on the more upbeat side of things.  Fans of alt country and Americana that aren’t already familiar with Wrinkle Neck Mules should definitely check out Apprentice To Ghosts.
