Album Review: The Coloradas

Title:  The Coloradas (BandCamp, Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby)
Artist:  The Coloradas (Official, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, BandCamp, Last.fm, CD Baby)

Hailing from Montville, Maine, The Coloradas play modern-day bluegrass and their self-titled debut is a somber set of songs masterfully played in the great tradition of mountain music.  The songs tackle life, love, drinking, and a bit of religion and are masterfully played.  There seems to be a bluegrass and string band revival with bands like Old Man Markley, The Fucking Buckaroos, and Carolina Chocolate Drops adding new voices to traditional music.  The Coloradas is squarely in this mix, though probably more in line with what Carolina Chocolate Drops is doing than Old Man Markley (in that OMM plays bluegrass with punk flare, both CCD and The Coloradas are just straight up string/bluegrass bands).  The Coloadas is a must record for any fans of bluegrass or traditional string music.
