Album Review: Soul Music Vol. 1

Title:  Soul Music Vol. 1 (Official, Siren Records, Amazon, iTunes)
Artist:  Jeff Hershey & The Heartbeats (Official, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, ReverbNation, YouTube, Wikipedia)

Jeff Hershey & The Heartbeats are a soul revival band, not too unlike The Inciters.  The style of soul played on Soul Music Vol. 1 is heavily influenced by the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding.  The songs are high energy with a full horn section and a great vocalist in Jeff Hershey.  Hershey was born to sing soul music and The Heartbeats are an excellent backing band.  As good as Soul Music Vol. 1 is, I have a feeling that this band is even better live.  If you are a fan of great soul music like Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, and Sam Cooke or soul revival acts like The Inciters or The Pietasters, then I HIGHLY suggest giving Soul Music Vol. 1 a listen.

Thanks to Dying Scene for the find.
