R.I.P. Davey Jones

Davey Jones, lead singer of The Monkees, died yesterday of a heart attack.  He was 66.

I remember watching reruns of The Monkees as a kid and then the band’s revival in the 1980s.  It wasn’t until later though that I grew to appreciate their music.  Yes they were a band created for a television show and yes that didn’t actually perform on all of their records, but they did eventually win control of the band and even put out some really good songs—“(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” comes to mind (plus who could ever forget those hilarious Brady Bunch appearances, especially in The Brady Bunch Movie).

Rest well Davey.
