2011’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

Spinner is reporting that the 2011’s nominees for induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame have been announced and include Guns N’ Roses, The Cure, Joan Jett, Eric B. and Rakim, and Heart, among others.

My first response – Guns N’ Roses?!?  WTF?!?  Seriously, how many bands/artists the truly deserve to be in the hall have been overlooked while GNR gets the nod?  At least Joan Jett is finally getting her due.  And Heart.  And The Cure.  And my dismay over the GNR nomination has nothing to do with my feelings about heavy metal.  Anthrax and Metallica were far more influential in the realm of the genre than GNR yet they’re not in the Hall.  *sigh*

I am not a big fan of Guns N Roses. they had a few good songs on the Use Your Illusion albums but overall, I can't say I'm a fan of their work.

I saw them in concert in Dallas once but I only went to the show because they were double headlining with Metallica and I went to see them. (The band that stole that show, however, was the opening act, Faith No More).

I am shocked that they have been nominated to the Hall of Fame while Metallica has not. I am not surprised that Anthrax had not been nominated (although they are a great band) however.

There are a lot of bands that get looked over by the Hall. GNR certainly does not deserve to be in there. They released three albums and one EP and then went away. How many bands did they influence compared to the number of bands influenced by Anthrax, Metallica, Judas Priest, Sonic Youth, or the Pixies? Not many I'd venture to guess.
