10 Films That Defined Their Generations

Gary Susman over at The Moviefone Blog has put together 10 Movies That Defined Their Generations. The list is actually pretty good, at least as far as Generation X is concerned. I think it is safe to say that the films The Breakfast Club, Reality Bites, and Boyz ‘N the Hood certainly defined, or at least highlighted, very distinct parts of Generation X.

Some movies show a period of time that already exists or has come and gone but I can't think of one that "defines" a whole generation, but there are some that influenced society enough to start a trend. "Urban Cowboy" was one,the sales of cowboy hats must have went through the roof when that came out,I know I bought a few, lol.

I think that is what they mean by “defining” a generation in film, or at least that is how I see it. There are some films that just really capture a period of time and those are the ones that I think of at least as ones that may define a generation.
