CD Review: The Seven Degrees of Stephen Egerton

Title: The Seven Degrees of Stephen Egerton (Interpunk, Paper & Plastic)
Artist: Stephen Egerton (Official, MySpace, Facebook, Wikipedia)

The ALL/Descendents’ guitarist extraordinaire Stephen Egerton has stepped out on his own and produced what is sure to be considered one of the best pop punk records of this decade. I’d go so far as to put this album up against any of the genres greats because it is that good. The mixture of Stephen’s excellent songwriting, musicianship, and production and the variety of vocals make for an exceptionally enjoyable listen.

Admittedly the standout tracks to me are those featuring the vocal talents of Chad Price (ALL), Scott Reynolds (ALL), and Milo Aukerman (Descendents). Those three songs (“Funny Face,” “Sunny Disposition,” and “She’s Got Everything”) sound like those new ALL/Descendents’ songs that fans like me have been dying to hear. But truth be told, there isn’t a bad song in the bunch (in fact they are all really f-ing good).

While The Seven Degrees of Stephen Egerton may not be that new ALL/Descendents record, it’s darned close but it’s also more. These are great pop songs that should be played on radios all across the country. They are anthems for summer that will make you feel happy and want to dance and should be staples in heavy rotation on iPods and playlists around the country. This is not only a must have for fans of pop punk, but it is an album that fans of great pop songs all over should own, pour over, and enjoy.
