Spinner is reporting that Thin Lizzy’s Live & Dangerous topped a recent poll that was trying to determine the top 40 live albums of all time. The story only includes the top 20, but based on that I have to say that this is a horrible list. The only acts on the list worth anything, IMHO, are The Who, Queen, Cheap Trick, and AC/DC. The rest of the list is your atypical classic rock that has gotten too much airplay since the 70s.
Since we’re on the topic, here are my Top 13 Live Albums –
1. Liveage by Descendents
2. Live: One Plus One by 7 Seconds
3. Live in a Dive by Swingin' Utters
4. Live by The Bouncing Souls
5. Live Under a Blood Red Sky by U2
6. The Dance by Fleetwood Mac
7. Live on St. Patrick’s Day From Boston, MA by Dropkick Murphys
8. Live Plus One by ALL
9. Real Live Sound by Agent Orange
10. Live at the Roxy by Social Distortion
11. Hallraker: Live! by Descendents
12. Payback Live by The Amazing Crowns
13. Scream Real Loud by 7 Seconds
(Note – I did not include U2’s Rattle & Hum because I do not see it as a live album. Yes some of the material on it was recorded live, but much of it is studio recordings and thus doesn’t qualify as a live record.)
