Now before anyone goes and attacks me for Sinister’s post, or for posting a link to it (interpreting my linkage as some covert support of communism or the views expressed by my fellow left-handed blogger), let me assure you that I am not a communist, nor do I support communism.
Since I’m sure someone will ask, here are my basic thoughts on communism –
- Communism is great in theory but would never work in the real world
- The communist regimes in the USSR, China, Cuba, etc. are perfect examples on why communism cannot work. Those are totalitarian/authoritarian regimes that have used communism for their own gains. In other words, they used the ideas of Marx to take control of their respective countries and to rule them with an iron fist.
The fact is that humanity simply isn’t ready to live in a communist society. Maybe someday we will be, but then again maybe not. At this point in our societal evolution though, the only way for communism to work is through totalitarianism and that is something that can NEVER be tolerated. Humans need and deserve to be free and if a times comes when society freely decides to embrace communism, then so be it. Until that time, it will never work.

I agree with you Dave. The USSR and China are prime examples of why something like that could never work and quite honestly (contrary to previous discussions we have had about this with a particular blogger) could never work because humankind is just not capable of letting it work.

My oldest son read Das Kapital (having previously read The Wealth of Nations and several other books on economics), and I asked him what he thought. He said, "Oh, Marx has a good grasp of how economics works. Marxism would work if people were naturally good."
Heckuva big "if." It always comes down to that. Communism would be the perfect way for men to live, if only men were not men!

As far as the rest of your list is concerned, you could only hope that things were so simple that you could package them up and spit them out in little sound bites that makes you enemies look bad. Had you taken the time to articulate an actual reply instead of a pile of snark, you might have made some inroads with me but instead you chose the easy way out. Shame really. I like having honest discussions and instead of whatever this is turning into.
Just look at MOTW for example. Here is a guy who is strong of a conservative as they come, yet you rarely see him devolving into the types of tactics that you use on a daily basis. And when he does, it actually drives a point home instead of sounding like more clatter. If you would stop screaming at the raid Red, you would have a better chance of wining people over. Being a salesman I’d expect you to understand that simple fact.
Oh yeah…that disclaimer was specifically for you Red. I knew that if I just posted to Sinister’s post and left it at that, you would rip me a new one. So I decided to beat you to the punch. :o)
